Volume II of Lloyd Robson's two-volume A History of Tasmania, sold here as a standalone book. This volume covers the period from 1856 — when Tasmania achieved self-government and the colony's name was formally changed from Van Diemen's Land — through to the 1980s.

Robson's history is regarded as the standard modern academic history of Tasmania, covering politics, the economy, society and the major events that shaped the state through the late colonial period, Federation, both World Wars, and into the 20th century.

At 663 pages with an index, it is a substantial and thoroughly researched work. This volume can be read on its own as a complete account of this later period of Tasmanian history, though it forms part of a larger two-volume set (Volume I covers Van Diemen's Land from 1803 to 1855).
