A History of Kangaroo Valley - Lenah Valley 1847-1995 covers the Hobart suburb from 1847 through to 1995, under its original name of Kangaroo Valley before its 1922 renaming to Lenah Valley (a Muwinina word for kangaroo). The area's history includes early land grants near Mount Stuart from 1817, James Sherwin's pottery on Pottery Road from 1831, and Lady Jane Franklin's Ancanthe estate and museum, built in 1843 and still operating today as the Lady Franklin Gallery.
