In 1862 the artist John Skinner Prout published an account of his 1845 trip to Lake St Clair. In 1863, his student and photographer Morton Allport travelled to Lake St Clair and using the new 'dry plate' technique, achieved the first photographic record of the area - Tasmania's first wilderness photographs.
This book contains biographical notes on Prout and Allport, and combines the two prose accounts and associated images to provide a notable record of the Lake St Clair wilderness area in the 19th century.
